Police Chief Recruitment


On June 12, 2017, the City Council gave approval for Sharon Klumpp from Stringsted Waters to conduct the recruitment process for our next Police Chief. The council has selected five finalists for the position.  Please find information on the candidates and interview schedule below. 

Brief Job Description 

The City of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota (pop. 35,077) is seeking a forward-thinking public safety leader to be its next Police Chief. The Police Chief, with guidance by the City Council, will set a strategic direction to address the needs of a growing community and create a department culture that values community policing and proactively engages the members of the department.  This position directs the City’s 46-member Police Department and manages a budget of $7.4 million.

A Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, police administration or related field is required, plus 10 years of experience in a police/public safety department with at least 20 sworn personnel, including at least 5 years in a supervisory capacity.  A Master’s degree in Public Administration or related field and/or previous experience as a Police Chief, Public Safety Director or command office in a comparable Minnesota police department is preferred.  Must be eligible for Minnesota POST licensure.

The position has a salary range of $105,581-$131,851, DOQ/E.  Competitive benefits package available.
