MnDOT I-494 project work between the Minnesota River and Hardman Ave. begins this week

Construction Updates

MnDOT Project Update: I-494 project work between the Minnesota River and Hardman Ave. begins this week (July 8)

As you already know, a pavement resurfacing and bridge repair project is well underway on I- 494 from South St. Paul to Inver Grove Heights. We also want to keep you up to date on the upcoming construction planned between the Minnesota River and Hardman Ave. in 2019 and 2020.

The I-494 construction between Hardman Ave. in South St. Paul and Blaine Ave. in Inver Grove Heights will be completed this fall. Starting this week, an eight-mile section of I-494 between 3rd Ave. in Inver Grove Heights and the east side of the Minnesota River Bridge will also undergo pavement reconstruction and bridge repair work. In addition to pavement reconstruction and bridge repair, the project work will include lighting replacement, turn lane installation and signal replacement at I-494/Pilot Knob Rd., drainage updates and pond construction. The improvements will enhance safety, improve traffic flow, provide a smoother riding surface and extend the life of the pavement and bridges.

All of these improvements will require multiple lane, road and ramp closures over the next two construction seasons
