Canada Goose Hunting Season

The City of Inver Grove Heights is again participating in the early Canada goose hunting season for 2016.  The early season is set for September 3 –September 18, 2016 

The regular Canada goose hunting season runs September 24 – October 2, 2016 and October 15, 2016 – January 4, 2017. 

The City will limit dates available for hunting Canada Geese to:     

        September 3 - 9,
        September 17 - 18, 
        October 15 - 16
        November 19 – 20, 
        December 16 - 17, concluding 
        Saturday, December 31, 2016.

The purpose of the hunt is to thin the goose population within the city.

Persons interested in participating in the early Canada goose hunting season should contact the Police Department at (651) 450-2525 to obtain an application form or to answer questions.

Participating individuals will be required to comply with the following conditions:

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age
  • The individual conforms to the requirements of the DNR for such a Program.
  • The individual has been issued, and carries on their person while participating in the Program, a valid permit issued by the City’s Police Chief.
  • The individual, while participating in the Program, complies with any conditions and restrictions that have been imposed by the City’s Police Chief as part of the permit issued by the City’s Police Chief.
  • The individual is on property owned by the individual, or has obtained and carries on the person of the individual the written permission of the landowner, or landowner’s representative, to hunt Canadian geese on the property pursuant to the DNR Goose Removal Program.
  • The individual shall use non-toxic BB or #2 steel shot only.
  •  There is no hunting allowed on the Mississippi River.
  •  There is a $20 application fee.

The City Council has determined that no hunting with firearms will be permitted after December 31, 2016.
