Pool Specialty Classes
Lifeguard Training (ages 15-adult)
Participants learn skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. 
Participants must be able to:
  • Swim 300 yards continuously, doing 100 yards of front crawl, 100 yards of breast stroke and 100 yards of front crawl and breast stroke combined. 
  • Swim 20 yards, submerge to minimum depth of 7 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim with the object back to the wall within one minute, 40 seconds. 
Upon successful completion, participants receive certificates for the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR-PR and AED, and qualify to apply for lifeguard positions for City of Inver Grove Heights. Participants must attend all classes, no exceptions. Participants who do not pass prerequisites will be charged a $50 administrative fee.

  • Fri.-Sun.   Nov. 25-27   9 am-4 pm
  • Wed.-Fri.  Dec. 28-30   9 am-4 pm

Fee: $235/member; $250/non-member

Water Safety Instructor Course (ages 16-up)
Teaching children to swim is a rewarding experience as it provides them with the knowledge and skills to save their lives or another person's life. The ability to swim also gives them the opportunity for a lifetime of enjoyment in the water. The WSI training course is a blended course that provides certification to teach American Red Cross swimming lessons. This class involves classroom and online work outside of the classroom.

Fee: $215 per person plus $35 fee to the Red Cross
