Make a Difference - Volunteer!  

Thank you for considering working as a volunteer! The City is excited to offer a variety of volunteer opportunities to support our dynamic Inver Grove Heights community. Are you looking for a one day event? How about a long term opportunity? Do you want to work outside? Maybe you have excellent organizational skills? We may just have the right fit for you!

Volunteer Benefits:

Most Needed Volunteer Opportunities:

Document Preparation
• Preparing documents for scanning by removing staples and paper clips, counting sheets, creating cover sheets, etc.

Document Scanning
• Creating electronic folders, scanning documents, moving documents to correct electronic folders.

Park Surveyors
• Surveying park usage using supplied data tracking sheets
• The park you would survey, and the hours you would do the surveying would be flexible
• Survey period would be approximately April through October.
 
 
Other Volunteer Opportunities:

Adopt a Hydrant, Neighborhood or Park   

  • • Hydrant (keeping snow away during the winter months)
    • Neighborhood (picking up trash and debris all year round)
    • Park (picking up trash and debris April through October)

    Seasonal Opportunities: 

    Garden/Landscaping Assistance
    Help maintain gardens and landscaping around City buildings, boulevards, 
    golf courses, parks, etc
    .
    • Mowing
    • Mulching
    • Planting and watering 
    • Raking

    • Weeding and deadheading
    • Other projects as agreed upon

     Invasive Plant/Tree Removal
    • Help the City remove invasive buckthorn, and other invasive species in identified areas This is a great opportunity for families or groups

    Bluebird Assistants 
    Monitoring bluebird boxes weekly in City parks to keep bluebirds safe and record their nesting progress. 
    Maintaining bluebird boxes, by checking on them monthly to see if any repairs need to be made, and getting then ready for bluebirds in the Spring, and cleaning them out in the Fall

    Office Support
    • Filing 
    • Copying
    • Organizing storage areas

    • Assembling packets 
    • Stuffing envelopes
     
    • Data Entry
    • Other duties as needed

    Special Events/Recreation Programs
  • Mother/Son Sports Night (March 10: 6:30-8pm)
  •  Egg Hunt (April 8: 1-2pm)
  •  Youth Sports Assistants (April-May) 

     
    Group Opportunities:

    Opportunities for area businesses, churches, civic groups, etc. to participate as a group can be explored by contacting Volunteer Services at 651-208-4840 or . Typically groups will do a park clean up, planting project, invasive plant removal, or assist with a special event.
