Where to get a License

Dog licenses may be purchased at City Hall, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (excluding official holidays). You must provide proof of a current rabies vaccination from your veterinarian.

Call (651) 450-2500 for more information or to make arrangements to pay by phone.

Licensing Requirements

City code prevents Inver Grove Heights residents from keeping more than three dogs at a time. A kennel license is required for four or more dogs over six months of age. Applications for a kennel license may be obtained from the City Clerk, or by calling (651) 450-2513.

City code requires dogs over six months of age to be licensed. Licenses expire every other year on April 30th and are issued in odd-numbered years.  Licenses can be purchased beginning 60 days prior to May 1st.

The cost of a license is $20 if the dog is unaltered and $12 if the dog is altered.
Proof of a current rabies vaccination from your veterinarian is required to obtain a dog license.

Cats are not subject to licensing, but the city does encourage you to have your cat vaccinated for rabies.
